Melodic Vision was commissioned to develop a video installation featured in the new Maritime Museum at Battery Wharf, which opened in Boston’s North End in June, 2009.

The 1100-square-foot museum is part of the Fairmont Hotel and Residences at Battery Wharf, situated directly on the waterfront at the intersection of Battery and Commercial Streets. The Fairmont Hotel and Residences is a luxury mixed-use project featuring a 150-room full-service hotel, 103 luxury residential condominiums, an 18,000 square-foot spa, approximately 33,000 square feet of retail space, 376 underground parking spaces, and a marina.

The Maritime Museum, a project of  the Boston History and Innovation Collaborative, showcases fascinating people, places, and events connected to Battery Wharf and the surrounding area over the past four centuries.  Outside, seven stunning outdoor Harbor Walk panels have  been called "the most beautiful and informative signage on all of Boston's Waterfront."

The research team for  the museum, the Harbor Walk signage, and the video's historic content included project manager and photographer Susan Wilson, Nancy S. Seasholes, Greg Ketchen, Bob Krim, Jenna Leventhal, and interns for the Boston History and Innovation Collaborative. Museum design was by Linda Ziemba of Trace Design Group; the project architect was Jay Szymanski of The Architectural Team.

The centerpiece of the indoor exhibit is a twenty-five minute video created by Melodic Vision. Blending period music with historic and contemporary stills and stories from the wharf’s rich history, the program invites viewers to visit bygone days and relive tales of colonial defense systems and historic wharves, soldiers and sailors, ferries and sailing ships, shipbuilders and lobster sellers, and a host of daring historic and modern missions.

The music featured in the video and the museum was recorded in Fraser Studio at WGBH by a stellar group of musicians:  pianist Jacqueline Schwab, accordionist  Evan Harlan, fife and clarinetist Billy Novick, and violist/violinist Rebecca Strauss. The music includes engaging new arrangements of familiar tunes like Yankee Doodle, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and Stars & Stripes Forever.
