SoundScapes
Melodic Vision’s SoundScapes uses original photographic stills by Susan Wilson and ambient sounds recorded and mixed by Rebecca Strauss to evoke a mood, time, or place.
Our first SoundScape project was a commission for the Maritime Museum at Battery Wharf in Boston’s North End. Balancing nautical images from Boston Harbor—of shimmering seas, ships, lighthouses, and docks—with original recordings of lapping waves, creaking decks, sea shanties, and seagull cries, the piece transported visitors to the colorful and historic North End waterfront.
We are currently developing more SoundScapes—on themes as diverse as swans, whales, maple syrup, and Paris—that pair slow pans and dissolves of vibrant photographs with resonant field recordings. These SoundScapes take audiences on virtual journeys to other lands and eras, while simultaneously serving as relaxing, meditative, natural "site-and-soundtracks" for use in museums, offices, hot tubs, or private homes.
